Adventa Bioscience’s® Tru to Life program is dedicated to helping scientists find a cure for a leading cause of infant mortality. Trulacta® helps support the NEC Society as it funds research on necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), a complex intestinal disease that primarily affects premature and medically fragile babies, and can result in death.
What is NEC?
A leading cause of infant mortality, NEC (necrotizing enterocolitis) is an intestinal disease that affects thousands of babies every year, primarily babies born prematurely or with a medical complication. Hundreds of babies annually die from this complex intestinal condition, an inflammatory process that can lead to tissue damage and tissue death. Many babies who survive NEC suffer from lifelong neurological and nutritional complications. Researchers are still trying to determine the causes, timing and progression of NEC, and which neonates are most at risk.
What is the NEC Society?
Established in 2014, the NEC Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to building a world without necrotizing enterocolitis through research, advocacy and education. The NEC Society is multidisciplinary and collaborative, bringing together patient families, healthcare providers, clinicians, researchers and other stakeholders to better understand, prevent and treat this devastating neonatal intestinal disease.
What does human milk have to do with NEC?
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends human milk over formula for babies to reduce the incidence of NEC. This is at the heart of why Trulacta supports the NEC Society: because we fervently believe in the benefits of human milk, for babies and adults.
Why does Adventa donate to the NEC Society?
Adventa Bioscience believes in the mission of the NEC Society and launched its Tru to Life program to support the organization, raise awareness about this deadly disease and help fund the search for a cure.
